The actual product is great - a healthy formulation without ingredients that might make me ill, and a little amount goes a long way to make my thinning hair feel soft and full. I also love the natural fresh scents. That said, I absolutely hate the packaging (hence the 3 stars rating). I've had these stupid inverted "bottles" fall off a shelf and onto my foot. One split at the wide end after a fall, making it annoying to use. One "bottle" developed mold from sitting near a corner in the shower (other products in regular bottles with it were fine). Several products have leaked when I didn't quite get them closed completely due to the difficult flip top opening. And I don't know how many times I've been scrapped or stabbed by the sharp corners at the wide end. The final insult is that the flip top of these "bottles" are hard to open, especially if you have arthritis in your thumbs. Whoever thought that these inverted "bottles" were a good idea was wrong. They may stand out from regular bottled products on the store shelves (and I'll grant that I love the colorful designs), but good package design is more than looks. If these Desert Essence products were in regular bottles, I'd give them a five-star rating, but until their next redesign (hopefully soon and, fingers crossed, in a normal bottle), I have to rate them at three stars.
