Nature's Way Alive! Ultra-Shake Vanilla 33 oz

This Alive shake may not taste or smell terrific; however, it is packed with nutrition that can't be beat! I wouldn't go a day without one. The extra energy that it gives me absolutely can't be beat!

Ive been using meal replacement health shakes for many years now, and finding the right one has become harder and harder! My favorites were either discontinued or changed. And some others were so expensive that I had to choose between the shake or buying toilet paper and laundry soap. I am soooo tired of that flipping awful search. I am so tired of my favorite products being discontinued. Its such an enormous bummer. Anyway, I never even KNEW about this particular shake option until very recently because amazon excluded this option from my searches FOR YEARS! (Please knock it off with that crap, Amazon) One of my long time favorite shakes was made by Natures Way. And it was called Metabolic Reset. I used it for years, but recently discovered that the price went up double... and all signs point to it being discontinued now, which is why the price has increased, no doubt. That leads me here. This product is packaged well. For once in my life I finally find a shake that has the right sized tub for the amount of powder. This is unheard of! Its also a clear sign that this company is honest and ethical! Every single other shake Ive tried is in a HUGE tub with the shake powder only filling up half the tub. On to the taste... because Ive trued so many shakes over the years I can tell you that this tastes right on target for a true health shake. Meaning: it truly tastes HEALTHY. I am used to how health shakes taste and this is not a bad one at all. I can taste the healthy ingredients in it. How I feel: ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! This gives me energy, keeps me regular, keeps me full, meets all my vitamin and mineral needs, and is a perfectly balanced meal I am a high protein eater and I do not avoid fat, either. This way of eating has always worked best for my body. So I use whole fat milk to mix this, and thats probably one reason I have no issues with how this tastes. Milk adds a wonderful richness that you simply cannot achieve with a vegan liquid option. I am so so so grateful that I found this shake. I am also so disappointed I never even KNEW IT EXISTED the past several years. Please keep making it. I beg you.

I have severe diverticulosis and tried this as an alternative to Ensure as a way to get more liquid nutrients. I began using it after hospitalization, transitioning from liquids and soft foods to incorporate other foods again. That stage, if you have the illness, where every bite has to count and you feel malnourished all the time! This product works great as a smoothie with fruit - alone it tastes like a homemade version of Carnation Instant Breakfast made by your vegan auntie, not bad, healthy, kinda nice ??- and has definitely given me some get-up-and-go back after just a few days. My pee is the same color as when I take multivitamins, was a little bright at first as the antioxidants worked, but may be alarming to some; it evens out. Hopeful this can help get my health back more over time, as I need to avoid surgery. EDIT UPDATE: awesome product. I feel a lot healthier after a few weeks of daily shakes. Will continue to use! 8 weeks later: I haven't felt this good in at least a couple of years. To help my dvt disease (&help ease fibro pain) I make a daily smoothie with this, turmeric, bee pollen, propolis, raw honey plus other supplements and a banana. So far it's life-changing and I've never felt so nutritionally sound. I hope the company knows this! ONE YEAR UPDATE: I did end up having surgery but continued to use this product during recovery when Ensure got to be too sweet, and afterward. My surgical recovery nurse, also an IBS sufferer, confided in me that she drinks this every day and avoided surgery. Now, I can only eat teeny meals at a time, with no appetite, and this helps me get good nutrients without irritating the diverticulosis. I make morning smoothies adding canned fruit, juices, yogurts, etc. Great product for diverticulosis folks.

This is our go to source of protein and nutrition for our EXTREMELY picky autistic 3 year old. He was diagnoses at 18 months and we've had trouble feeding him his whole life because of his sensory issues. If he doesn't like the look of something, he won't even touch it with his finger, let alone put it in his mouth, chew it and swallow it. Needless to say his diet is very limited. While we're in feeding therapy to work on it, we've had to make sure he gets adequate nutrition in the mean time. I found this in a health food store a couple years ago and took it to my pediatrician to get his approval to use in my son's smoothies. He looked at the ingredient list and gave us 2 thumbs way up! We're lucky that he will drink almost anything so we make him a daily smoothie with this pea protein powder, so juice, yogurt and fresh fruit and he downs it. I can sleep at night knowing he's getting at least some good nutrition and protein each day thanks to this shake! I've been ordering this on Amazon for 3 years now. I only deducted 1 star because it doesn't mix very well unless you use a blender or make a smoothie with it. If you just tried to mix this in juice or milk or water it is way too chunky and clumpy and my son won't go near it.

Like many others, I'm trying to cut back on soy and wheat; and I'm also terrible about skipping breakfast. Ala the Virgin and Wheat belly diets I started doing smoothies with high protein Kefir and almond milk, but still felt a bit hungry when using as a meal replacement. Hence getting Pea protein. This is my first foray into pea-protein so I don't have a lot to compare- though I've ordered some other brands to try. I haven't tried Alive "straight and have no desire to. My current recipe: (which I'm still tweaking) is about 4 ounces Kefir, 4 ounces Almond milk, a banana, some kale or spinach, and about 3/4 scoop of Alive. I then add whatever other fruits I have on hand: strawberry, kiwi, blueberries etc. Pop it in a blender and it's fine. By using just a little less than the recommended amount it blends well, and bananas always seem to cover all sins of taste. Yes it's thick, but no worse than the old herba-life shakes I used to drink in the 80's, of which it reminds me of. IMHO the thickness adds more to being satiated and having some body, which I prefer. I used to add ground flax and chia seeds, but this stuff has enough supplements and fiber, that I feel I don't always need to anymore. Absolutely zero GI problems, and I've had reactions before. Always liked Natures way and feel good using their products. I often make the concoction the night before, put it in a travel mug in the fridge so I can just grab & go in the morning (along with my coffee!). With this I'm good for about 4-5 hours, with no crash- just normal graduated hunger. It's the perfect commuter meal. My stand-by eggs actually have less protein, but tend to fill me up longer- but I often don't have the time to make them. If I'm going to skip, I do feel more satisfied with this than my old fall back of Cliff Bars (which are full of soy and wheat). Meal replacements be it bars or drinks, are never a gourmet experience, so I came in with low expectations. This works for my intended purpose.
