I posted this review on another listing for FemDophilus (Jarrow Formulas FemDophilus, Supports Vaginal and Urinary Tract health, 60 Capsules), but am cross-posting here because this is what I actually bought; and because I hope readers here will benefit from the experience I have recounted below I am writing this review because I have repeatedly found customer reviews helpful and especially want to thank those reviewers who recommended using this oral probiotic as a vaginal suppository. I am in my sixties and have been blessedly free of any gyno issues until now, well after menopause. About 3 months ago, I began experiencing a burning sensation in the netherlands which I thought might be due to postmenopausal atrophy despite being on low dose hormone replacement therapy. There was no discernible unpleasant odor, but there was a somewhat thin, white discharge which I thought might be a yeast infection even though I am not diabetic, had not been on antibiotics or had any other likely risk factor or cause. I self-medicated with an OTC product for yeast infections, thinking it cant hurt and may help. But, it exacerbated the burning horribly and thus, prompted me to see the doctor. Sure enough, I had BV. I was prescribed systemic Metronidazole which provided amazing relief. I was also given Diflucan since the Metronidazole can cause a yeast infection. In addition, I ordered the FemDophilus from Amazon and began taking 2/day orally to get back in pH balance. I was fine, happy and feeling normal for about one month, then that horrid burning returned anew with slight itching as well. I returned to the doctor and was prescribed Metronidazole gel. Once again, it provided soothing relief for the prescribed 5 days; and since I was taking the FemDophilus daily, I thought I would be fine. I was wrong. Sorry to be graphic, but I developed a curdy discharge after completion of the gel treatment and so took a prescribed Diflucan. It worked, again, but I was dismayed that the disturbance in my intimate anatomy was becoming a vicious cycle and was causing physical discomfort and some mental anguish, as well. I was also disappointed that the oral FemDophilus did not seem to be making a difference, despite the many rave reviews. I didnt want to be among the lonely, still distressed souls for whom this probiotic did not work. So, courtesy of advice others shared in their reviews, I started using one capsule in the morning and another in the evening as a vaginal suppository while continuing to take 2 orally each morning with yogurt. Today, after only 2 days, I have noticed a wonderful difference. Specifically, there is almost no discharge of any sort, and I am not itching or burning. Thank you, God and the others who have shared their stories. For those wondering how to do the suppository method, this is what seems to be working for me. I use one of the applicators saved from the metronidazole gel which is easy to clean thoroughly because the plunger and tube can be completely separated. I put a capsule in the applicator which I coat with organic, virgin, unrefined, cold-pressed coconut oil (which is soothing in and of itself). The coconut oil must be of the nature I have described and can be found in regular grocery stores (I get the Publix Greenwise brand). For daytime, I do use a very thin panty liner for any of the excess coconut oil. Thats it, ladies. Bottom line: so far, so good. I feel like me again. I feel normal. I do not know whether I will have to do this for the rest of my life to thwart whatever threw my pH balance off, but I do know that it works. And it sure beats the heck out of repeated doctor visits, prescriptions for antibiotics/antifungals and the associated costs. To those who come here looking for help whether suffering with BV and yeast symptoms of new onset or for several years, may this review offers you hope and comfort.
