Sodium R-alpha-lipoic acid is a highly bioavailable and stabilized form of R-lipoic acid. Regular R-lipoic acid is heat sensitive and may polymerize extensively, decreasing its absorption significantly. In real-time stability tests, sodium R-lipoic acid remained stable for 12 months. The natural R isomer of alpha lipoic acid may provide enhanced antioxidant activity, energy production, and general metabolic function. Studies suggest that R-lipoic acid offers support for glucose metabolism in skeletal muscle.

A University of California Berkeley study indicates that R-lipoic acid may be protective against age-related oxidative stress in the liver. Furthermore, a study at Oregon State University established a potential role for R-lipoic acid in protecting the heart from age-related oxidative stress.*

Worked for me

This product really works -- almost too good! Takes a few days to get used to. I would advise taking every other day until it seems right. Like the fact that it is plant-based.

May cause heartburn/severe stomach acid

I use many Pure Encapsulation products. The cost is higher than most of their competitors, but the quality is usually exceptional. I have been using another brand of Alpha Lipoic Acid, (purchased at my Chiropractor) which gave me good results, so I thought I would try the PE brand for better results. I chose R-Lipoic because it is supposed to be less acidic. It does help alleviate my nerve pain however, every time I take it, I end up with an extreme acid stomach. Doesn't seem to matter if I eat first or take it on an empty stomach. If I stop taking it for a day or 2, the problem goes away. Ithink I will be going back to my other brand.

Excellent Supplement!

This product is very pricey, but it works very well. I can't tolerate Alpha Lipoic Acid, but R-Lipoic Acid works great for me. It helps with neuropathy and is a powerful antioxidant. Pure Encapsulations is one of the best nutraceutical companies out there. Will continue to buy from them. Seller is great, also. Product is always as described, comes on time and is never damaged. Highly recommend.
